Emerald Canopy Enemy Lore
Shortly after returning to the hub world victorious from Sandy Shores, Koopa and Kiko are intercepted by Sergeant Sky. He warmly congratulates the heroes on defeating King Kragg and successfully returning the first stolen gemstone to the shell of the Elder Turtle Statue.
Sergeant Sky then reveals a strange delivery: a ghostly letter mysteriously dropped into his mailbox. It is a spectral note of gratitude from the Ghost Parrots whose ship the heroes cleared. Sky explains that these avian seafarers originally hailed from the Emerald Canopy, a lush treetop metropolis. Long ago, they were the ocean's greatest navigators, but they abandoned the sea entirely after their flagship went missing. Handing Koopa and Kiko the second key to the Elder Turtle portal, Sergeant Sky urges them to travel to the Emerald Canopy to investigate what has become of the parrot civilization.
Upon stepping through the portal and arriving in the main city of the Emerald Canopy, Koopa and Kiko immediately sense something is wrong. Instead of the sharp, intelligent birds Sergeant Sky described, the local Parrots are highly sluggish, docile, and wandering around in a daze.
The heroes soon spot the cause: the citizens are obsessed with dipping their beaks into vats of what appears to be glowing "Honey." However, this substance is far from natural. It is a highly potent, mind-numbing narcotic secretly pumped into the biome to keep the intelligent parrot population compliant and easily controlled.
The heroes discover that the Emerald Canopy has been taken over by two ruthless, 1920s-style organized crime syndicates locked in a perpetual turf war.
On one side are the Wasps, a calculating, "Godfather"-inspired mafia operating in sharp pinstripe suits with Sicilian mobster flair. On the opposing side are the Poison Dart Frogs, a rowdy, brawling faction of gangsters modeled after the Irish mob. They fiercely defend their respective territories, turning the treetop city into a dangerous mob battleground.
Both factions are deeply paranoid and highly aggressive toward outsiders. They will attack Koopa and Kiko on sight, desperate to stop the heroes from snooping around their turf.
Unbeknownst to the bumbling, pacified Parrots, the turf war is entirely staged. The Wasps and the Poison Dart Frogs are secretly in cahoots, operating a massive underground racket.
By combining the natural venom of the Wasps with the toxic, hallucinogenic goop of the Poison Dart Frogs, the two mobs have manufactured the paralyzing "Honey." To distribute it without raising suspicion, the syndicates use a front: a shady, small Wasp poorly disguised in a fuzzy sweater to look like a friendly, harmless Bee, peddling the illicit goop to the locals as "all-natural honey."
To reclaim the second stolen gemstone and restore the parrots to their maximum IQ, Koopa and Kiko must completely dismantle the underground honey racket.
This requires navigating the treacherous gang territories and exposing the mobsters' secret alliance. The climax of this turf war leads to a brutal showdown with the mastermind of the operation: a towering Mutated Queen Wasp. Biologically enhanced by the syndicates, her stinger has been fused with the most lethal concentrations of the Poison Dart Frogs' venom. Defeating her is the only way to cut off the supply chain, cleanse the Emerald Canopy of its toxicity, and save the city.
