Hootsworth

Core Role: Merchant, fashion expert, and over-enthusiastic concierge who finds the perfect hat for every adventurer, whether they asked for one or not.

Design & Profile

Appearance

• Classy "gentle-owl" look: top hat, tie, proudly puffed-up feathers.
• Moves like a theatrical tailor, all exaggerated gestures; often measuring, inspecting, or adjusting hats mid-conversation.

Personality

• Chatty, slightly eccentric, and obsessive about hat fashion and "the perfect fit."
• Never rushed. Time stops for him when headwear is involved.
• Has a warm habit of over-explaining completely simple things.

Gameplay & Narrative Function

• Primary Vendor: The main structural sink for collectibles; unlocks and sells core cosmetic upgrades.
• Diegetic Gating: Runs his shop in the hub world and pops up in levels via unmanned magical Persian Hat Rugs and Hat Stalls.
• Tutorial Guide: Light introductory voice for cosmetics, currency spending rules, and shop systems.
• Lore Layering: Claims to have traveled "every corner of the skies" for legendary headwear, referencing rare historical fashions from other times and places.

Hub Home: Hootsworth's Hat Shop

• Exterior: A cozy, slightly crooked wooden shop with a rounded roof shaped like a massive top hat. A swinging wooden sign carries his silhouette, and the stacked windows are full of spinning, floating hats on pedestals.
• Interior: Shelves of hats in every style and magical effect, a main counter he perches on while tapping his talons, and random stacks of scrolls and tailors' measuring tapes.

Relationships

• NPC - Mortimer Mole: Friendly rival. Respects his historical knowledge but argues that ancient items are meant to be worn, not clinically displayed.
• NPC - Sergeant Sky: Respects the discipline, finds him intimidating, and keeps suggesting a proper hat would fix his posture.
• NPC - Blob Makin: Amused by the grumpiness; keeps trying to sell him novelty hats anyway.
• The Elder Turtle: Regards him with reverence, as a legendary force.
• Character - Koopa: A polite, valued customer; offers playful advice on what suits his shell.
• Character - Kiko: Amused by the bird's cheeky antics; keeps encouraging him to try new aerial styles.
